The Manipur Film Development Corporation Limited (MFDC) is the successor to the erstwhile Manipur Film Development Council. The MFDC is a Public Undertaking and was registered as a Corporation in 1987 under the Companies Act (Act 1 of 1956) at the office of the Registrar of Companies, North East States of India, Shillong (Meghalaya).
Objectives & functions:
With an authorized share capital of Rs.1.5 Crore, MSFDS was launched to promote and propagate film industry in the State. Its main objectives are to promote, develop, aid and assist to the cinematography trade and industry, and all of its allied and kindred trades and businesses, particularly the business of construction and running of studios, laboratories and theatres for the production of films, both celluloid and digital videos; television programs, organization of national and international film festivals, establishment of Film Archives, Library and Museum for the development of film industry on modern lines.
A BACKGROUND NOTE AND VISION DOCUMENT
i. ESTABLISHMENT
The Manipur University of Culture was established in 2015 after the Government of Manipur introduced a bill called “The Manipur University of Culture Bill 2015” in the Manipur Legislative Assembly which received assent of the Governor of Manipur on the 10th April 2015. Subsequently, the Government has appointed the 25th August 2015 as the date of commencement of the Act.
The University was formally inaugurated by the Governor of Manipur who is the Chancellor of the University on the 12th August 2016 in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur. The first Academic Session was commenced on the 20th September 2016.
The first Vice-Chancellor and the first Registrar were appointed on the December 2015 by the Hon’ble Governor. Both of them assumed office on the 4th December 2015. They were subsequently joined by another officer called Finance Officer appointed by the Hon’ble Governor.
ii. CLASSES
The University is a new and unique University of the state and the first of its kind in the entire North-Eastern part of India. The University open classes for Graduate in the following courses:
(i) Music
(ii) Dance
(iii) Theatre
(iv) Visual Arts
(v) Thang-Ta
(vi) Umang Lai-Haraoba
(vii) Sankirtana
(viii) Tribal Studies
In addition to this, there is one course on Languages (English and Manipuri) and another course on Theory of Culture and Culture Studies.
iii. LOCATION
The office of the University is at present located at the premises of the building complex of the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur, Palace Compound, Imphal.
The Classes of the above disciplines are conducted in the premises of Imphal Art College, near Imphal War Cemetry (for Visual Arts); Government Dance College and Government Music College, Palace Compound, Imphal ( for other subjects).
iv. DURATION OF THE COURSES
The courses will be of three years duration (Graduate). In the case of Visual Arts, the course will be of four years duration.
